The cheapest and most ecological solution would be to re-use your former tabletop, but you could also use a door to cut costs instead.
Just keep in mind that you do not need to order your tabletop at the same shop as where you order your electronic frame. The only thing you need to take into account is that the tabletop length is matching the desired length of the frame. It is possible to change the distance between the length of each foot of the frame. In this way, every frame will have a minimum desired length of tabletop (when the legs are as close as possible to each other) and a maximum length when fully stretched.
Watch out as cheaper products tend to come from further away. Make sure they have the product in stock in your country as otherwise exact delivery timing is difficult to predict.
Dimensions
We are discussing full work-stations, no activity-based workspaces. In this case the length of the table is determined by the amount of external screens.
If you use only 1, 120 cm is long enough. You will have enough space for your second screen on laptop stand, keyboard and mouse, desk lamp and even some clutter or papers.
When you use 2 external screens or you want to put your printer on the desk as well, you need to look for a top with a lenght of 180 cm. 80 cm width is the minimum you need to put a second screen. 2 cm thickness is the absolute minimum for safety reasons.
Material
We like to push Bamboo forward, it is one of the fastest-growing and therefore eco-friendly types of wood. It is also having a really nice feel. However, smart composite materials exist as well. It is possible to use a honeycomb carton with a laminated outside layer, just like inside more affordable doors, as well. Any type of material will do, just watch out with metals as it will adapt to room temperature and might be cold to touch at first. Also, the surface should not be too reflective as otherwise, it might confuse the laser of your mouse. Even for the case of varnished bamboo, you might be required to use a mouse mat.
Color
This is not an easy question. At work the employer wants the desk, a symbol of productivity to stand out. However, white might reflect the light and can cause your eyes to trire quickly. At home the opposite happens, black is the preferred color. All of this is ok, it is up to you. We opted for a full wood tabletop as it brings nature into the workspace. Did you know that patients with a view on nature recover quicker? On the inside, we are all outsiders. That’s why all NOT A DESK products can be set up next to the window, to work with natural light and let Nature do the work for you.
